Tarsus Commodity Exchange Chairman Murat Kaya said that although the Base prices per ton announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are satisfactory in today's conditions, the support premiums are insufficient.

Reminding that the Coranavirus epidemic, which threatens the whole world, once again reveals the importance of the agricultural sector, Murat Kaya said, “The floor prices announced by our President in cereals and pulses are satisfactory as well as the market conditions. Bread wheat, whose purchase price was 1.350 TL per ton last year, was increased to 1.650 TL with a 22.2 percent increase this year. In addition, the support premium, which was 100 TL per ton in the past harvest season, reached 230 liras along with other premium items. Considering that the wheat price in the world markets is around 1650-1750 TL per ton due to the virus epidemic, we find the base prices announced positive.

Noting that the base prices announced are satisfactory, the premium support is below expectations. Mayor Kaya said: “Premiums should increase. The 5-year premium goes at the same levels. Prices in cotton, soy, wheat, barley and corn have not changed in the last 5 years. The announced 100 TL / ton premium figures need to be increased urgently considering the virus outbreak ”.
